RG Absher
RG Absher is a well known Musician, Historian, and folklorist who resides in Elkin, NC. Absher works as a Park Ranger at W. Kerr Scott Reservoir in neighboring Wilkesboro. His side activates and interest in ghosts stories and legends in Wilkes County North Carolina led him to conduct research on the areas ghost stories. RG began collecting these stories a few years ago and today leads Old Wilkes, Inc in conducting candlelight ghost tours in Downtown Wilkesboro.
Absher noticed a few years ago that folks reported strange experiences in the old historic buildings of down town Wilkesboro. These buildings included the Old Wilkes Jail (jail that the infamous Tom Dooley was incarcerated in 1866). The Smithy Hotel built in 1891, the home of the historic Smithy Family, and the Robert Cleveland House built in 1779.
Absher conducted a series of interviews and documented first person experiences in the buildings. What struck his interest as that he found independent persons telling reoccurring stories of the unexplained events that happened in downtown Wilkesboro.
Absher’s tours combine history with some bizarre ghosts stories which he has uncovered.
